After the Civil War, the United States took great strides politically, economically, and socially. Beginning in the 1860s, the Union began reconnecting with the once-seceded South. This was done through transportation, industry, and business. Some lucky industrialists became very wealthy and prosperous, setting the stage for a rich upper class. Labor unions would be formed and revolt and tensions ran through the nation regarding money, politics, and racism. Throughout the next 4 decades, we see America grow more and more into the modern society it is today as industry comes of age.
