Labor Unions
A boom in industry created a huge necessity for workers in the last 1800s and early 1900s. The workers didn't have to be skilled, or of a certain sex or color, not even from America! Immigrants were attracted for the simple jobs. Not all agreed with the "job requirements", work hours, protection, wages, etc. Labor Unions were formed in defense against working rights. Strikes and sometimes even violence were forms of rebellion in which labor unions performed. The two major unions, American Federation of Labor and Knights of Labor, formed with similar ideas, the two butted heads often, and problems were even stirred up within each of the unions themselves.
